DOMAINS AND DNS
In practically all cases AmeriHost will be able to handle any of the changes needed below without your intervention.
In order to correctly route HTTP traffic to goMobi domains, the DNS settings for mobile domain traffic must be configured correctly. The following information explains your options so your domain will redirect correctly to your mobile site when required
NOTE! - YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO HAVE OR PURCHASE AN ADDITIONAL DOMAIN NAME FOR YOUR goMobi MOBILE WEBSITE TO FUNCTION
CORRECTLY. YOU CAN USE YOUR EXISTING DOMAIN NAME WITH AN ADDITIONAL DNS CNAME RECORD.
(Please refer to scenario 2 below)
SCENARIO 1 - You have and existing desktop website and domain name and you have already purchased a separate domain name to use for your mobile website:
You do not need to make any DNS additions or changes to your existing domain name for your desktop website. For the domain name that you will use for your
mobile website, change the nameservers to the following:
ns1.instantmobilizerdns.com
ns2.instantmobilizerdns.com
SCENARIO 2 - You would like to use the domain name assigned to your existing website for your mobile website also:
NOTE! - If you are unsure where and how to manage your DNS settings, please contact your domain provider for help.
Change your DNS records for your mobile domain to the best suited example below:
| Mobile domain type | Required DNS settings |
|
3rd-level domain name Examples: m.domain.com mobile.domain.com |
Set the CNAME record to direct traffic to lb.gomobi.info Example: m.domain.com CNAME lb.gomobi.info |
|
2nd-level domain name Examples: domain.mobi domain.info domain.com |
If the DNS system supports CNAMEs on 2nd-level domains, use a CNAME record to direct traffic to lb.gomobi.info Example: example.mobi CNAME lb.gomobi.info |
|
If the DNS system does not support CNAMEs on 2nd-level domains, use an HTTP redirect server to redirect example.com to www.example.com, add an A record for example.com to point at this server, and then add a CNAME record for www.example.com that points to lb.gomobi.info |

REDIRECT CODE
Once you've built your mobile web site, the next step is to make it available to your visitors. Placing a redirect code on your existing page will
invisibly direct mobile visitors to your new mobile site and desktop visitors to your dekstop website if one is available.
The redirect code is also linked to an online database of over 4,500 mobile device types and will select the correct presentation of your mobile site
based on the end user's device.
The goMobi site builder presents several options for generating the detect/redirect code you'll need to place in your main site home page if you have one.
When you click on the "Select Redirection Code Language" drop-down menu, you'll be offered 4 choices:
- ASP.NET
- JSP
- PHP
- Javascript
